Eva Gonzalès (1847-1883) was an an ambitious artist and Edouard Manet’s only student. She was determined to choose her own artistic path and she became an innovative voice in the Parisian art world. During her lifetime, Gonzalès was praised by art critics and admired by her contemporaries.
Together for the first time
After she died suddenly at the age of 36, she largely disappeared from art history. This exhibition is the first to bring together her delicate paintings and pastels, giving them the attention they deserve.
The retrospective is a collaboration with the Petit Palais in Paris and features loans from international museums and private collections.
