The writer Arnon Grunberg was asked to contribute to this exhibition because of his tremendous dedication and his productivity. This is reminiscent of Van Gogh’s devotion for his work. There are other similarities as well, as shown by Grunberg’s response to a letter in which Van Gogh reflects on a variety of vital questions.
One of Van Gogh’s conclusions is ‘that I don’t know anything, but at the same time that the life we are in is such a mystery that the system of “Respectability” is certainly too narrow’
Grunberg realises that he ‘must fight the fight alone’, but perhaps he takes comfort in the thought that he could have been Van Gogh’s brother.
