Prelude
In February 1888, Vincent van Gogh boarded a train and travelled from Paris to the south of France. He arrived in the town of Arles. After a while he decided to stay and rented the Yellow House at Place Lamartine.
Chapter 1: Finding Inspiration
Vincent was captivated by the vibrant gardens of Arles. His fascination with sunflowers blossomed into the paintings he used to decorate the Yellow House.
Chapter 2: Reflections and Aspirations
Vincent dreamed of a place where he could invite artists, to paint together and inspire each other. His bedroom in the Yellow House was his sanctuary.
Chapter 3: A Passion for Sunflowers
To welcome his friend Paul Gauguin to the Yellow House, Vincent started to paint sunflowers. He experimented with compositions in different shades of yellow. These were the beginning of a series of paintings that wouldlater become a symbol of his fame and artistic vision.
Chapter 4: Friendship and Gratitude
Vincent hung two sunflower paintings in Gauguin’s room. It was a very personal gesture, because he knew that Gauguin admired the sunflower paintings he had made in Paris. The new and vibrant blooms symbolised their creative friendship.
