Two cities. Two sounds. One night at the museum
The nightlife of Amsterdam and London will converge in the Van Gogh Museum during ADE. This evening of art and music is inspired by nocturnal images of London by James McNeill Whistler (1834–1903) and the exhibition Whistler. Dandy and Disruptor in the Van Gogh Museum.
Music from London and Amsterdam
Two musical worlds intertwine, enhancing each other and creating a unique experience, as Amsterdam band Devon Rexi and London musician Coby Sey each play a set. Their sound ranges from experimental electronic music, dub and hip hop to dreampop.
Art collective uncloud will use sound and images to transform the museum into a visual nocturnal landscape.

About the artists
Devon Rexi, an Amsterdam-based band with a playful, dub-influenced experimental style all their own, incorporate distorted Farsi vocals, layered drum patterns, unearthly sounds and driving bass lines to create a sound that often seems otherworldly.
Coby Sey, songwriter, producer, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and DJ, has spent years in the DIY scene in South-East London, and has developed a distinctive sound and style as an artist and performer.
Combining live instrumentation, samples and experiments with recognisable influences from hip hop, noise, jazz and grime, he creates a subtly unsettling sound coloured by dub. He also hosts a monthly show on NTS Radio.
In his performance Coby admires the artistic value of James McNeill Whistler's paintings while questioning his character, his racial views, and the legacy of that work today. In that sense his performance is a disagreement with Whistler's own belief that art can be made purely for art's sake.
