The paintings of the museum are sensitive to light. Light can cause discolouration of pigments: some colors fade, others darken. The lighting in the museum is arranged so that the artworks are damaged as little as possible. As a result, the lighting is not optimal for visually impaired visitors. We are working on improvement, taking the sensitivity of the artworks into account.
Floor plan with facilities We have published a floor plan featuring information about our facilities. Pick up a copy from one of the Information Desks at the museum or download it:
We recommend you book ahead online. Visitors who are unable to navigate their way through the museum independently are permitted to bring a companion with them for free. The companion’s ticket includes a free multimedia guide. You can book the free companion’s ticket online.
The Van Gogh Museum is located at Museumplein 6 in Amsterdam. The museum is easy to reach using public transport. From Amsterdam Central Station, we recommend using the following route:
The museum welcomes guide dogs fitted with a suitable harness. There is no need to register guide dogs prior to your visit. Dogs can be walked on Museumplein, which is located next to the museum.
Gallery texts describe the artworks in the permanent collection or temporary exhibition, and are identical to the texts you can read on the signs in the museum. We have collated the most important gallery texts in a PDF file. Due to changes in the presentation of the collection, the gallery texts may differ slightly from the current situation in the museum.
Prefer not to read from a screen? A booklet with the gallery texts in large font is available for loan from the Information Desk in the Entrance Hall .
