Professor Jaap Winter has been appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board for a period of four years. ‘One of the major challenges is how to present Van Gogh's art the world over by means of modern technology in addition to the museum's unrivalled success.’
During the Council meeting of 29 September last, Professor Jaap Winter was appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Van Gogh Museum for a period of four years. Mr. Winter is chairman of the Executive Board of the Free University and professor in International Corporate Law at the University of Amsterdam. In his capacity as a member of the Supervisory Board, Mr. Winter will, among other things, monitor risk governance.

Mr. Jaap Winter (1963) graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen and also received his PhD from the same university. He is a specialist in the field of Corporate Governance in the Netherlands and Europe. Until late 2013, Mr. Winter was a partner of the law firm of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek in The Hague and Amsterdam. He advised boards of management and supervisory boards about the formulation and functioning of Corporate Governance. He was commissioned together with Mr. Erik van de Loo to evaluate the functioning of executive and supervisory boards.
Mr. Winter was a member of the Tabaksblat Committee that drew up the Dutch Corporate Governance Code in 2003. He was chairman of the High Level Group of Company Law Experts that advised the European Commission and the Ministers of Finance about company law and corporate governance in the European Union in 2001-2002. In 2004 he received the ICGN International Corporate Governance Award. Mr. Winter is supervisory director with Randstad Holding N.V. and the Koninklijk Concertgebouw N.V. He is a member of the Amsterdam Economic Board.
Van Gogh Year
Mr. Winter will become a member of the Supervisory Board of the Van Gogh Museum during the busy and successful Van Gogh year during which Van Gogh is commemorated by many activities. One of the highlights is the Munch : Van Gogh exhibition (25 September – 17 January) in the Van Gogh Museum. During the first month, the exhibition attracted more than 200,000 visitors – an ample 60,000 more than in the previous year. Recently the museum received its 1,600,000th visitor.
As of September 2015 the Supervisory board of the Van Gogh Museum will consists of: Mrs. Trude Maas (chairperson), Mr. Peter Tieleman, Mr. Hein van Beuningen, Mrs. Joanne Kellermann, Mr. Gary Tinterow and Mr. Jaap Winter.
