Please note: Our offices will remain closed as a result of measures introduced by the Dutch government to control the coronavirus (covid-19) outbreak. For that reason we will not be able to assess your request at this moment and it’s not possible to submit a request.
At the museum we do a lot of research into the art of Vincent Van Gogh, and so we have a great deal of specific knowledge about his oeuvre, his iconography, his painting and drawing technique, his choice of materials and the history of his works. This knowledge can help determine whether or not you are the owner of an artwork by Van Gogh, and we would be happy to share it with you.
The service is basically free, but did you know we get an average of around 200 requests of this kind every year? To enable us to process them all as efficiently as possible, we have developed a special procedure and a number of conditions that need to be met. You can read about them below.
Please note that physical artworks can only be send by post after you receive an invitation. Artworks that are sent without an invitation will not be accepted by the Van Gogh Museum and will be returned to the sender directly. Van Gogh Museum will not accept any liability wit regard to the artworks which are sent without an invitation. All costs (for example but not limited to transportation costs) will be charged to the sender.
