The High End Reproductions of the Van Gogh Museum: you simply can't get closer to the original. All 'Van Gogh Museum Editions' are made in limited editions only and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
High End Reproductions
With the so-called 'Van Gogh Museum Editions', the museum has realized three types of reproductions in a limited edition: paintings, drawings and sketchbooks.
Museum Edition Paintings
Nine carefully selected masterworks of Van Gogh are now available as high end 3D reproduction.
Van Gogh often used thick applications of paint on his canvas, making his works perfectly suited for 3D reproduction. The Van Gogh Museum worked closely with Fujifilm Belgium to develop a special technique combining a three-dimensional scan of the painting with a high-resolution print.
Limited edition
The collection features a limited print run of 260 reproductions of each of the featured masterworks. Each Museum Edition is numbered and certified by a Van Gogh Museum curator. Various stamps have been added to the back of the original artworks over the years, and these are also included on the reproductions. Each Museum Edition is presented in a deluxe, handmade case and is accompanied by a separate box containing the official certificate and background information on the original masterwork.
The collection
The reproductions are of such high quality that it is almost impossible to distinguish them from the originals with the naked eye. The nine carefully selected masterworks in the Van Gogh Museum Edition Collection are:
- Sunflowers (1888)
- Almond Blossom (1890)
- The Harvest (1889)
- Wheatfield under Thunderclouds (1890)
- Boulevard de Clichy (1887)
- The Bedroom (1888)
- Undergrowth (1889)
- Landscape at Twilight (1890)
- Fishing Boats on the Beach at Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer (1888)
Museum Edition Drawings
Vincent lived and worked in the house on the corner with the green shutters. This is the Yellow House in Arles. This drawing is now available as replica, as part of the Van Gogh Museum Edition Drawings collection.
About the edition
In order to guarantee the highest quality, every individual piece of the Museum Edition Drawings is carefully examined.
- Each edition comes with a certificate of authenticity signed by our curator of drawings, Fleur Roos Rosa de Carvalho.
- The wooden frame and the passe-partout have been created by the museum's frame maker and are identical to that of the original drawing on view at the Van Gogh Museum.
- The facsimile is framed behind 3 mm UV-resistant Optium Museum Acrylic glass with an anti-static and anti-reflective finish.
Museum Edition Sketchbooks
Vincent van Gogh is best known for his colourful paintings, but he was also an accomplished draughtsman. The unique facsimile edition of the sketchbooks is produced in a limited amount of 1000 units.
Of the many sketchbooks that Van Gogh must have owned, only four from his years as an artist have stood the test of time. These sketchbooks are all part of the Van Gogh Museum collection, and are very rarely put on public display due to their vulnerability. For this reason, the Van Gogh Museum has decided to issue these four books as a facsimile. The edition contains two notebooks, a few sketches and a letter.
About the edition
The facsimiles are presented in a walnut wood cube. The size is based on the 'Rietveld size' of 35 x 35 x 35 cm. This size is connected to the Van Gogh Museum: Gerrit Rietveld designed the museum's main building. Each facsimile comes in a separate felt-lined drawer, which can be opened from all four sides of the cube. The edition is accompanied by a richly-illustrated book introducing the sketchbooks and the period in which they were made.
An interchangeable walnut wood picture frame is included on the underside of the cube, which can be used to display the loose sketches. Furthtermore, there are replica's of Van Gogh's drawing supplies. This allows you to experience which materials Van Gogh used in his sketchbooks.
