Vincent van Gogh greatly admired Japanese prints. The use of flat planes of strong colours, everyday subjects and attention to detail in nature inspired him. The students will learn about the connection between Van Gogh and Japan, and how inspiration can go in two directions.
This online teaching material is available on the Van Gogh at School education platform.
To celebrate the museum's 50th anniversary, Pokémon and the Van Gogh Museum have launched this collaboration. Together, they developed various educational activities based on the shared link with Japanese art and culture: Pokémon is a Japanese pop culture icon and Japanese prints were a significant source of inspiration for Vincent van Gogh.
The Van Gogh Museum and The Pokémon Company International take the safety and security of visitors and staff very seriously. Recently, a small group of individuals has created an undesirable situation that has led us to take the difficult decision to remove the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat promo card from the museum. In this way, visitors will be able to experience this special collection of Pokémon paintings and the rest of the museum in a safe and enjoyable manner.
Fans shopping at Pokémon Center (United Kingdom, United States and Canada) will soon receive another opportunity to obtain the Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat promo card. Pokémon will give additional updates through its official email and social media channels.
Pokémon will also reintroduce the promo card in participating retailers in the Netherlands early next year. It will not be available via the Van Gogh Museum.
If you want to cancel your ticket because the Van Gogh Museum no longer issues the Pokémon promo cards, please contact us via the contact form.
After we have received your request for cancellation and refund via the contact form, we will check your information and refund the amount in question to your bank account within 15 working days.
If you have a free ticket (e.g. because you are under 18, or have a Museumkaart) and have decided not to visit, please let us know so that we can make your start time available to another visitor.
