The Van Gogh Museum is a museum of stories. The narrative of Van Gogh’s eventful life is one of the most told stories in the art world. Van Gogh himself had a passion for writing, as is reflected in the hundreds of letters in which he poetically described his surroundings, art and life. These letters are an indispensable element of the story behind his art.
During Museum Night, activities at the museum will be centred on the theme of storytelling. If you remove the story behind the art, what remains of it?
The programme includes a storytelling tour of the museum, during which English-language storytellers help you to see Van Gogh’s paintings from a completely new perspective. There will also be panel discussions and workshops exploring the power of stories. Art installations outside the museum and in the Entrance Hall will ignite discussion. And live music from Yallah! Yallah! is guaranteed to get you on the dance floor.
