Meet Vincent van Gogh Experience Receives Prestigious Thea Award for ‘Immersive Touring Museum Exhibit’

23 November 2016

Meet Vincent van Gogh, the new touring experience created by the Van Gogh Museum, is awarded with the Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement – Immersive Touring Museum Exhibit. This was recently announced by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA).

The prestigious TEA Thea Award is considered one of the industry's greatest honours and is internationally recognized as the Academy Award of the themed entertainment industry. The Thea Awards will be formally awarded on April 22, 2017 at the 23nd annual Thea Awards Gala in Anaheim, United States.

Adriaan Dönzelmann, Managing Director of the Van Gogh Museum, and responsible for the Experience:

“We are very proud that the members of the jury officially acknowledge the quality and added value for the audience of the Experience. The multisensory concept in which we tell the story of world’s best known Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh is seen as highly impactful. Visiting the Experience is not only an educational experience but most of all fun! We are deeply grateful for this recognition and give thanks to everyone that is or has been involved in producing this award-winning experience.”

About the Meet Vincent van Gogh Experience

Guided by quotations from personal letters, lifelike ‘Relievo’ reproductions, photographs and spectacular audiovisual scenes from his artworks, life and environment, visitors of all ages will embark on a journey through the most important moments of the life of the world’s best known Dutch artist, Vincent van Gogh. The beautifully simulated environment will bring a comprehensive perspective on the life and work of the artist to locations where his paintings, letters and works of paper are now too fragile to travel. The audio tour, the heart of the tour, brings numerous figures to life: Vincent himself, his brother Theo, his sister-in-law Jo, his mother and other key persons, and their stories guide visitors through the various scenes and phases of Vincent’s life. The audio tour is based on the huge numbers of letters in the museum’s collection. More information via www.meetvincent.com or www.vangoghmuseum.com.

TEA Thea Awards

The TEA is the international non-profit association representing the world’s leading creators, developers, designers and producers of compelling places and experiences worldwide. In 1994 the TEA created the Thea Awards to realize one of their key objectives: bringing recognition to achievement, talent and personal excellence within the themed entertainment industry. The Thea Awards have since then become an internationally recognized symbol of excellence within the entertainment industry. More information via www.teaconnect.org.

About the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam

The museum carries the name of one of the best-known artists in the world, and celebrated its 40th jubilee in 2013. The museum is one of the world’s strongest cultural brands and in many ways, unique in its field. To start with, the VGM houses the largest collection of Van Gogh works in the world, with 205 paintings including some of his most famous, iconic works, 500 drawings and nearly all of his letters (in excess of 800).

The collection also features paintings and drawings from between 1840 and 1920 by Van Gogh’s friends and contemporaries, by artists that had inspired him and by those whom he inspired. In addition, the museum is home to a unique, internationally-acclaimed collection of fin de siècle prints, with a specific focus on the Nabis artists. An exceptional element of the print collection is the Japanese woodcuts, ukiyo-e, collected by Vincent and Theo van Gogh. The Van Gogh Museum collection is regularly enriched with new acquisitions and works on loan.
