‘Born and bred in Brabant, Vincent van Gogh was a rebel and a trailblazer’, says Peter Wennink, CEO and President of ASML. ‘He was inspired by light and it was key to his work, as it is to ours. This partnership provides us with the opportunity to help to preserve the heritage of Van Gogh in Amsterdam, and through this heritage, to share our expertise on light with a broad audience.’
‘Paintings fade like flowers’, Vincent van Gogh once wrote, and it is true that the appearance of many of his paintings and drawings has been altered significantly due to colour degradation.
As part of the partnership, a group of ASML engineers is collaborating with the Van Gogh Museum’s conservators to support research into the conservation of Vincent van Gogh’s world-famous paintings.
Together ASML and Van Gogh Museum investigate how light affects the paint Van Gogh used and how to optimize exhibit conditions. By supporting this research, ASML helps to ensure that future generations can enjoy this unique collection.
