Jyoti Gupta asks at what time of day Vincent was at his most creative. Discover the answer.
Van Gogh did most of his painting during the day. After all, he often went outside to paint surrounded by nature, and it was easier to distinguish colours than when working by gas or candlelight.
Vincent used his evenings to draw, read or write. When Van Gogh went to live in the Yellow House in Arles, he had a gas supply installed. This allowed him and Gauguin to work by the light of a gas lamp after the sun had set.
