Gallery talk by educator Jolein van Kregten. The annual Studio practice presentation focuses on Cliffs at Villerville-sur-Mer by Charles- François Daubigny (1864-1872), a canvas from the Museum Mesdag collection. It was through this work that Daubigny came to be viewed as an important precursor to the Impressionists, because according to an early biography of the artist written in 1875 he had executed the canvas entirely in the open air. Technical research has since shown this to be a myth. Daubigny painted the canvas in hs studio, and furthermore reworked it twice.

Music conservatory on stage: atonaalzien
Starts at 20:15 / right hand exhibition corridor
atonaalzien is an unconventional art project that strives to connect different disciplines in a new, abstract way. In a most honest way two different art forms are confronted with each other in two different settings.
In the first scene, Maarten (music) and Annemarie Schumacher (painter) confront their works to each other to see if an interaction is possible between pure spatiality (an image) and pure temporality (a sound), without using a symbolism that is outside of art.
In the second scene, Esther (dance) and Anna Steinkogler (harp) show how the natural coexistence of dance and music (composed by Andys Skordis) can be reinterpreted in a completely unexpected way.

(DE)-Constructing me
| Starts at: 20:00 and 21:00 For the Friday nights, the designer Catta Donkersloot and photographer Lisa Kortenhorst created an installation inspired by themes in the exhibition on Alfred Stevens. Keywords are: isolation, femmes fatales, mirrors and studio visits. The films deal with the search for an individual identity, the limitations of freedom through clothing, the evanescence of time and reality, and the perception of women in general.

Le Nu Perdu is a young theatre collective, making performances that balance between (music) theatre and performing arts. They create worlds using darkness, sounds, visuals, taste, smell... Activating all senses.
Especially for the Van Gogh Museum Le Nu Perdu developed Fernweh, a piece in which viewers are invited to experience Van Gogh's letters with all their senses.
In one of his sermons in the Borinage, Vincent van Gogh described life as a long journey. He saw us all as pilgrims, strangers on earth. Le Nu Perdu takes as its point of departure this walk through life, and specifically Vincent van Gogh's own journey. The journey is one of associations, in which sensual experiences (smell, touch, taste) based on Van Gogh's works are combined with extracts from the correspondence between Vincent and his brother Theo.

Alfred Stevens: (DE)-Constructing me / (RE)-Constructing Stevens
On Friday nights the exhibition Alfred Stevens gets an exclusive twist with the project (DE)-Constructing me by the designer Catta Donkersloot in which she shows three films and a tableau vivant. The Friday night continues online on www.vrijdagavond.wordpress.com: seven creative minds collaborate in (RE)-Constructing Stevens and explore in the blog how topical the various themes in the exhibition still are.
Kick-off (RE)-Constructing Stevens
Gallery talk by Jolein van Kregten, Educator
Starts at: 19.30
Kick-off of this project that lasts for the duration of the Alfred Stevens exhibition, in which seven young creative spirits will explore how topical various themes from the exhibition still are. They are informed by Jolein van Kregten about the exhibition. This lecture is also open to the public. The seven people are then split up into small groups and will give each other research assignments. The groups will be working independently and have several months in which to complete their assignment. One of the conditions is that they record the process on the blog vrijdagavond.wordpress.com. This is to result in a visual product, such as film or a series of photographs. The end result will be presented on three evenings in January. The participants in the project are from different artistic disciplines including photography, video art and theatre design:
Geertje Geurtsen: Theatre designer
Daan Dirk de Jonge: a.k.a. VJ Daan
Lisa Kortenhorst, galery owner, freelance photographer, she created the (DE)-Constructing me films
