24 June 2011: Masterpieces from the Van Gogh Museum temporarily on view in The Hermitage Amsterdam
The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam will begin renovation at the end of 2012 in order to ensure the condition of the building and the safety of the visitors in the long run. Masterpieces by Van Gogh will remain on view during the renovation: they will be presented in the Herenvleugel of the Hermitage Amsterdam as of October 2012.

21 June 2011: New standard work: 'Vincent van Gogh, Paintings 2. Antwerp and Paris, 1885-1888'
Vincent van Gogh, Paintings 2. Antwerp and Paris, 1885-1888 focuses on 93 paintings that are central to Van Gogh’s years in Antwerp and Paris, a period that has been somewhat underexposed in the past. This is the first time the paintings produced in this period have been subjected to detailed scrutiny and interpretation.

1 June: Van Gogh Museum presents new corporate identity
rom today the Van Gogh Museum has a new corporate identity built around the artist's characteristic brush strokes, his use of blue and yellow as featured in the enormously popular works Sunflowers and Almond Blossom, and quotes from Van Gogh’s letters.

20 april 2011: Van Gogh Museum acquires two works by Pissarro
The Van Gogh Museum has enriched its collection with the purchase of two works by Camille Pissarro (1831-1903): the painting The haymaking, Éragny (1887) and the gouache Cowgirl in morning sun (1887).

A tulip has been named after Vincent van Gogh by director Axel Rüger in a ceremony at the museum in Amsterdam.

14 February 2011: X-Rays show why van Gogh paintings lose their shine
Scientists have identified a complex chemical reaction responsible for the degradation of two paintings by Vincent van Gogh and other artists of the late 19th century. This discovery is a first step to understanding how to stop the bright yellow colours of van Gogh’s most famous paintings from being covered by a brown shade, and fading over time. In the meantime, the results suggest shielding affected paintings as much as possible from UV and sunlight.

Night Watch and The Bedroom in gigapixels
Google launched the Art Project, a collaboration of 17 of the world's most acclaimed art museums, including Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum. The museums selected one piece of artwork from their collection, which Google then photographed in gigapixels. Around 1,000 objects from the same museums were also photographed in high resolution, and 385 museum galleries can be viewed.
