Preparations for renovation Van Gogh Museum
Van Gogh’s paintings will remain on display as long as possible
16 August 2012
On 29 September 2012, the Van Gogh Museum will open in the Hermitage Amsterdam. The preparations for this move are well under way. Before the move, Van Gogh’s greatest works will remain on public display in the Museumplein building for as long as possible, until 23 September.
We are closing our Museumplein building for renovation for a period of seven months. The renovation work will be coordinated by the Government Buildings Agency, the caretaker of our building.
To create optimal conditions for the renovation, in order to begin right away on 1 October, we will have to start preparing in an earlier stage. For this reason, we will close the museum in several stages, floor by floor. But the Van Gogh paintings, which are what our visitors most want to see, will remain on display for as long as possible before the move, on the ground level and the first and second floors.
Tip: for quicker entry and shortest cues: visit us between 3 pm and 5 pm.
