Frequently asked questions
Why is it compulsory to choose a day and time when I make a purchase?
Many of our visitors want to make the most of their visit to Amsterdam. In order to facilitate this, it is possible to reserve a date and starting time online.
Because there is a starting time, does this mean I also have to leave by a particular time?
No, that is not necessary. You can take the time you need to visit the museum. We do however ask that you arrive on time, so that there are no delays for visitors who have reserved a later starting time.
Do I need to print my e-ticket?
No, just show the e-ticket on your smartphone (iOS or Android) at the entrance.
Can tickets for a different period be used when they have expired?
Admission tickets for which the date or time has expired cannot be exchanged for cash or for tickets for a later period. We offer you the option of selecting a preferred date and time within the possibilities.
Can I change or cancel tickets?
Unfortunately, tickets cannot be returned once purchased. If your admission ticket is still valid for a date in the future and you wish to change the date or starting time, this is possible, subject to availability. To do this, please contact email@example.com.
How far in advance can I buy online tickets?
Admission tickets are made available for sale four months in advance. During this period, you can reserve a day and starting time when you wish to visit the museum.
How will I receive my tickets?
Once your purchase has successfully been completed, a page will appear after payment indicating that your order has been successful and offering you the option to download your tickets. You will also be sent an e-mail to the e-mail address you provided when making your order. If you cannot find the tickets immediately, check your spam folder. If you have not received a confirmation e-mail, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. We will then look for your tickets or reissue them after checking the payment.
Can I still buy tickets when online tickets are sold out?
Yes, a large amount of tickets is available at the museum cash desk every day..
Can I book an online ticket with my I amsterdam City Card?
Unfortunately, this is not yet possible. You can use the fast lane to go to the cash desk where the validity of your card will be checked and you will be issued with an admission ticket.
Does a Holland Pass Voucher allow me to go straight into the museum?
If you have a Holland Pass Voucher then you can use the voucher lane to go to the cash desk where you can exchange the voucher for an admission ticket.
Please note: you cannot reserve a start time if you are using a voucher.
Alternatively, you can use your Holland Pass to purchase an online ticket with 10% discount. This will allow you to reserve a start time and you will not need to go to the cash desk; you can walk straight through to the entrance at the reserved time. Your e-ticket and discount card will be checked at the entrance.
What is a Van Gogh Museum Annual Pass and how can I obtain one?
The Van Gogh Museum Annual Pass is a special pass that the Van Gogh Museum sends out annually to a select group of museum associates. It gives these associates free admission to the museum. If you do not have this pass, you cannot choose this option. The pass is not available for sale.
If I have a Museum Card (Museumkaart) do I have to book online?
Museum Card holders gain fast access via the voucher lane (lane 3).
For direct access, please book a starting time via tickets.vangoghmuseum.nl.
If you are coming with a group in which some people do not have a Museum Card you may wish to book online as a way of ensuring everyone can enter at the same time. The advantages offered by the Museum Card are for the cardholder only.
What is the difference between a multimedia tour and audio tour?
In addition to sound, a multimedia tour uses images and video. The multimedia tour is available in English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish and Italian. The audio tour for young people (recommended for ages 6 to 12) is available in English and Dutch.
I have forgotten my discount card. Is it possible for you to check if I am a cardholder at the museum?
The Van Gogh Museum does not have access to the databases of organisations that issue discount cards. If you have an e-ticket and are unable to show a valid proof of discount, we will not be able to allow admission.
Are my credit card details stored in a database?
