The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam houses a unique collection of almost 500 Japanese prints. The majority of these come from the collection that Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo accumulated during the 1880s. The collection contains some important prints as well as series by major 19th-century Japanese masters such as Kunisada, Kuniyoshi and Hiroshige.
The collection reveals how greatly Van Gogh valued Japanese art and culture, and indicates how deeply he was influenced by it. Japanese prints: catalogue of the Van Gogh Museums collection is a revised reprint of Catalogue of the Van Gogh Museums collection of Japanese prints from 1991.
