Find out what the Van Gogh Museum offers secondary schools. Book a guided tour, a reception with assignment sheet or reception with a multimedia tour for your school group.

Reservations
Please make your reservation no later than two weeks prior to the date of your visit. Unfortunately school visits are not possible on Saturdays or Sundays.

You can send your request for a school visit to educatie@vangoghmuseum.nl. Please include the contact details of the school and the desired date and time. An employee of the Education Department will contact you. Reservation is possible until 14 days prior to the visit.

At the appointed date and time, Van Gogh Museum staff members welcome you and your group at the entrance to the Hermitage Amsterdam and facilitate a rapid entry. Choose from among the following possibilities to customise your visit:

  • Guided tour

During an interactive tour of one hour, a museum teacher guides the students through the Van Gogh Museum’s collection. The emphasis lies on looking at Van Gogh’s works of art, and exploring topics such as the themes portrayed, technique, use of colour, composition, light, material and taste. The museum teacher stimulates the students to establish links between Vincent’s life and his artistic development. Naturally, the level of the group is taken into account.

A tour is recommended only for students proficient in Dutch or English.

    Price
€ 50 per max. 12 students. Teachers accompanying the group have free admission. This only applies if your reservation is made at least two weeks in advance of your visit. On the day of your visit a museum staff member will assist you in making payment at the cash register.

  • Reception and admission with an assignment sheet

After a brief introduction from a museum staff member, the students visit the van Gogh Museum on their own. If they have not brought a school assignment with them, the Van Gogh Museum can provide them with free individual assignment sheets on the permanent collection. These are available in English, French, German and Dutch.

    Price
€ 40 per school group of max. 36 people (including teachers). On the day of your visit a museum staff member will assist you in making payment at the cash register.

  • Reception and admission with a multimedia tour

After a brief introduction from a museum staff member, the students visit the Van Gogh Museum on their own. A multimedia tour provides them with additional information on the works of art on display. This tour is suitable for students in the last years of secondary school and lasts one hour.

    Please note
This school visit does last one hour. The multimedia tour is available in English, Dutch, German, French, Spanish and Italian.

    Price
€ 40 per school group of max. 36 people (including teachers) and an additional € 2.50 per multimedia tour (students as well as teachers). On the day of your visit a museum staff member will assist you in making payment at the cash register.
