An important element in Van Goor’s renovation plan was the connection between the Main Building and the new Exhibition Wing. It is only through this connection, also known as the ‘Node’, that the visitor can enter the new elliptical building. The Node is at the back of the Rietveld building, where the restaurant is located.

The connection consists of a staircase, an escalator and a panoramic lift going down to the lowest level of the new wing. Van Goor consulted closely with Kurokawa on the design. Making the different levels fit together was a complex task.
